Other Types of Hernias
Apart from the most commonly found inguinal hernia, there are of course other types of hernia that we also repair according to the successful „Tailored Surgery” technique.
Every repair of a hernia inguinal, umbilical, epigastric or incisional should only be in performed by a highly experienced surgeon in hernia repairs or by a specialist in hernia surgery, himself.
Only a specialist in hernia surgery is able to perform a wide spectrum of repair techniques, choose the right technique for each patient and perform it diligently.
1. Umbilical hernia
The umbilical hernia consists of a circumscribed round defect at the umbilicus, which we repair with a tension-free technique using a mesh umbrella. This technique has been developed in our Hernia Center Munich and is referred to as “Munich Repair” in literature. So far we have not seen a single recurrent hernia. Even professional athletes can start training right after surgery.
2. Femoral hernia
Unlike inguinal herniation, this production is rare in male patients. The femoral hernia is a specific form of hernia that especially occurs in middle age, suggesting that weakness of the tissues is the main cause. Also, femoral herniation is sometimes seen after a previous repair of an inguinal hernia.
3. Epigastric hernia
This special type of hernia consists of a round defect mostly in the anterior muscular region of the abdominal wall. Like with the umbilical hernia, we use a mesh-umbrella to achieve a complete tension-free repair restoring full stability to the abdominal wall.
Own retrospective studies show - like for the umbilical hernia – not one single case or a recurrent hernia so far.
4. Incisional Hernia
Incisional hernias are one of the most important problems of wound healing and can occur after any type of abdominal surgery. They result in inadequate collagen bridging and appear as a palpable defect in the laparotomy wound often with visible bulging. Due to potential bowel incarceration they can result in life threatening situations.
