Which type of Anaesthesia is used?
At the Hernia Center Munich, we have performed all hernia surgery under local anaesthesia since 1993 with great success. Especially with regard to the short-term inpatient and outpatient treatment of hernias, it is superior to all other methods of pain elimination.
Local anaesthesia (local/infiltration anaesthesia) is the standard anaesthesiology method at the Hernia Center Munich.
Since 1993, already over 12,000 hernia surgeries were performed successfully with this method.
An experienced surgeon can completely eliminate pain during and after surgery this way. At present, local anaesthesia is experiencing a renaissance, especially when it comes to older and/or risk patients.
An anaesthesiologist will monitor and care for you throughout the entire surgery. He/she masters all modern anaesthesiology methods and can supplement pain elimination with an analog anaesthesia ("twilight anaesthesia).
The principle of local anaesthesia (local/infiltration anaesthesia) is pain elimination by blocking the nerves in the groin region with a pain-free injection. This is not a spinal anaesthesia.
The advantages of local anaesthesia are fast mobilisation and reducing your stay in the clinic.
You may eat immediately after surgery. In addition, you will not experience the side effects of general anaesthesia like nausea and vomiting, headaches and urinary retention.
The gentle pain elimination and surgery at the Hernia Center Munich enables you to leave the clinic already on the evening of the day of surgery and resume work the next day.
